PORTRAYING THE USE OF AUTHENTIC MATERIALS IN EFL READING CLASSES: A STUDY ON STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS

Using authentic materials in EFL reading classes is essential as a medium to help students practice their skills. This study uses mixed methods determine student perceptions, motivation, and anxiety when using texts classes. The participants of this were 19 university Malang the third semester. data collection instruments used include questionnaires interviews. results indicate that tend give positive perceptions. Nevertheless, it undeniable some negative responses for several reasons. Positive feel have many benefits. In contrast, they cannot understand contents do not benefits can be obtained. level motivation also higher than anxiety. Students motivated because improve English skills, gain knowledge, challenged. However, encounter difficulties make them anxious texts. reason find uncommon words, language, sentence structures. For future researchers, doing more research on conducting profound interviews suggested so obtained varied current one.
